Kāpō Māori Aotearoa is the national organisation supporting Māori who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. We provide culturally-affirming services, advocacy, and support for kāpō Māori and their whānau.

Who can access Kāpō Māori Aotearoa services?

Our services are primarily for Māori who are blind, deafblind, or have significant visual loss and their whānau. We welcome anyone who supports our kaupapa and values to register as a member. There is no registration cost to become a member.

What services does Kāpō Māori Aotearoa provide?

We provide Cultural Support Services, Advocacy and Navigation support, Information and Referral services, Whānau Support, and connections to our nationwide community. All services are designed to honor Te Ao Māori while addressing practical challenges.

Is Kāpō Māori Aotearoa free?

Yes, there is no cost to access our services or become a member. You can choose to become a Tangata (financial) member through an annual subscription fee, which allows full participation in governance and strategic development.

What does kāpō mean?

Kāpō is the Māori word for blind or blindness. It reflects our cultural identity and the community we serve - Māori who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision.
